Night Stretches Through is Róisín O’s first single since the release of her No.1 album Courageous. Partly inspired by Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, Róisín explains the origins of the song: I wrote the lyrics to Night Stretches Through after bumping into my ex on a night out in town, and seeing them with someone else for the first time.
My writing partner John Broe played me that syncopated rolling bass and drum line and it reminded me of songs I loved like ‘Dancing on my Own’ by Robyn and ‘Running Up That Hill’ by Kate Bush, and the melody poured out of me. I wanted to capture that feeling of being in a place where people are dancing and having fun but your world has just come crashing down around you and you’re trying to keep it together, to just keep dancing…
